Net Zero
Measure emissions, set targets and implement transition plans.
Reducing emissions, driving efficiency and transitioning to a low-carbon future.
Net zero is the destination for your environmental action. It gives your sustainability work an end point, so that you can say you have arrived. From there, the task is to maintain it.
What is net zero?
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Integer posuere erat a ante venenatis dapibus posuere velit aliquet. Donec ullamcorper nulla non metus auctor fringilla. Vestibulum id ligula porta felis euismod semper. Cras mattis consectetur purus sit amet fermentum. Maecenas faucibus mollis interdum, nullam quis risus eget urna mollis ornare vel eu leo.
Aenean lacinia bibendum nulla sed consectetur. Curabitur blandit tempus porttitor. Nullam id dolor id nibh ultricies vehicula ut id elit. Etiam porta sem malesuada magna mollis euismod.
Why net zero matters
If you are undertaking a project, you should reach a stage where you can say you have arrived. Without a destination, good work can carry on without ever adding up to an outcome. When speaking to lots of senior leaders, sustainability can feel a bit like that. Net zero is that destination, once you reach it, all you need to do is make sure you remain there.
If we are doing something, we should get to a stage where we say we have arrived.
Professor Ven Tauringana
Under the Paris Climate Agreement, the world needs to reach net zero by 2050. Organisations that commit to net zero through the Science Based Targets initiative are aligning their own plans with that goal.
In Zimbabwe, awareness of net zero is close to zero. At a recent event, the organisations that spoke described valuable work and the accreditations they had gained, but nobody mentioned net zero, and nobody seemed to realise there was such a thing.
Who this service is for
The organisations we work with most closely include:
- companies listed in Zimbabwe;
- state-owned enterprises,
- organisations with a high environmental impact, such as those in mining and farming.
This strand applies where the issues you have identified are environmental. Within each organisation, our net zero courses are for the board and senior managers.
How we help you reach net zero
The principle is to reduce your emissions as far as you can, to the bare minimum. If you are a manufacturer, it is impossible not to pollute at all. Whatever remains, you balance by paying someone to plant trees or to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere equivalent to what you emit. For example, if you emit 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and pay for trees that absorb 10,000 tonnes, your net emissions are zero.
The process works like this:
- we measure your carbon emissions across scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3;
- we take the total, which might be 200,000 tonnes, and calculate a reasonable rate of reduction so that you reach net zero across all three scopes before 2050;
- we set out how you are going to achieve that; and
- you commit to net zero through the Science Based Targets initiative.
You cannot claim to be net zero for scope 1, scope 2 or scope 3 on its own. It has to be all three scopes.
You can’t say I’m net zero for scope one, or for scope two, or for scope three. It has to be all three scopes.

All the work is delivered in-house. Where needed, we also bring in other professionals in specialist areas to support it.
Our net zero consultancy covers SBTi process advice and the calculation of your greenhouse gas emissions.
Benefits of Net Zero
- Establish an emissions baseline to understand where your organisation stands.
- Identify practical opportunities to reduce emissions.
- Set clear targets and map the actions, responsibilities, and investment needed.
- Track progress and communicate your transition plans with greater confidence.
Our track record in net zero
We helped a company in Zimbabwe gain accreditation with the Science Based Targets initiative for its net zero commitment.
How we deliver net zero training
We offer two net zero courses, and each can be delivered in person, remotely or online:
- SBTi Net Zero for Boards: A Boardroom Masterclass, for the board of directors. Delivered in person or remotely over 4 hours, or online over 3 hours.
- Delivering Net Zero: Roadmap, Targets, and Execution, for senior managers. Delivered in person over 7 hours, remotely over 6 hours, or online over 5 hours.

Where net zero sits on the highway
Net zero is strand 06 of The Highway to Organisational Prosperity Through Sustainability. It follows Mesgiro and applies where your issues are environmental. Once you reach net zero, sustainability becomes embedded in everything you do, and that is where organisational prosperity happens: stronger performance, greater resilience, inspired people, sustainable growth and enduring value.
You do not have to start at the beginning. You can join the highway at the junction that fits where your organisation is today, build capability, and advance towards organisational prosperity. Sustainability runs throughout the journey, and organisational prosperity is the destination.
